Cordierite materials are magnesium aluminosilicates which result from sintering soapstone with the addition of clay, Kaolin, corundum and mullite.

Cordierites have a low thermal expansion which results in an excellent thermal shock resistance combined with good mechanical strength. Two types, porous and dense, are distinguished. The porous type has a low bending strength and even higher thermal shock resistance than the dense type , since it can absorb mechanical stresses in its porous structure.

Additionally, cordierite is inert with respect to metallic resistance materials (no reaction between heating elements and ceramics) at temperatures up to 1,000 &dig;C to 1,200 C.

For this reason, cordierite is often found in the electric heating application and in heat engineering in general. Because of this special property of cordierite i.e. very low thermal expansion, is selected mainly as the best possible material for Kiln Furniture.

Sonya Ceramics, know as the manufacturer of industrial ceramics throughout the world has ventured into the manufacturing of the best cordierite Furniture for the ceramic industry.

Our Cordierite kiln Furniture can be safely used up to 1,300 C.
